But she says there was a time when her strict Evangelistic upbringing would have harshly condemned such a sexually-charged appearance. The E.T singer has opened up about her early family life in an interview with the magazine and has revealed: ‘I didn’t have a childhood.’Growing up in a strict Christian household, she admitted: ‘I was always scared I was going to get bombed when I was there.’
She also explained how her childhood was denied of any books and that her mother would only ever read her the Bible. The 26-year-old explained how her inquisitive side was relentless and says she felt compelled to push the boundaries strict family life. She said: ‘I have always been the kid who's asked 'Why?'’She explained: ‘In my faith, you're just supposed to have faith. At this point, I'm just kind of a drifter. I'm open to possibility.'
The singer says she is constantly learning and will never stop evolving. She said: ‘My sponge is so big and wide and I'm soaking everything up and my mind has been radically expanded.’Katy has made no secret of her family’s strong faith and strict religious values, but she now says that her parent’s values have now evolved and they have moved on together a family. 'We coexist,’ she said. ‘I don't try to change them anymore, and I don't think they try to change me. We agree to disagree.’
Katy’s mother, Mary Hudson, agrees that they have evolved and changed as parents, and this has made Katy’s career and relationship with Russell a lot more acceptable in their eyes. Mary also told Vanity Fair that she and Katy’s father, Keith Hudson, had been forewarned about their daughter’s future rebellion from their beliefs before she was even born. Mary said: ‘The Lord told us when I was pregnant with her that she would do this.’
