The Chinese Ministry of Culture made an announcement on August 19 to blacklist "poor taste” and “vulgar" pop songs from the country.
Titles from Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Backstreet Boys were on the list.The blacklist consists of 100 songs by Chinese and foreign singers or groups, most of them from the Taiwan region, Japan and other East Asian countries,such as A-Mei Yoga Lin JAM HSIAO Kuraki Mai and Ken Hirai.The Western lineup also includes Avril Lavigne, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce and Take That.
Drama Queen Lady Gaga pushed the moral limits too far with her six banned tracks: “The Edge of Glory,” “Hair,” “Marry the Night,” “Americano,” “Judas” and “Bloody Mary,” as reported by the Guardian.According to the Ministry of Culture, the ban is enforced on songs that had not been submitted for approval or archiving before their release in the country.This ban also includes content that has copyright violations and a general "lack of supervision and regulation over market behavior."

Various music websites must remove songs deemed inappropriate by September 15.Noncompliance could result in prosecution by Chinese authorities.The Chinese Ministry of Culture will now strictly enforce the rule that digital music providers need to obtain official approval from the ministry for any foreign song they distribute on the Internet.
