Katy Perry tried to fool her fans into thinking that she can play the flute, but there's just one problem -- she was faking playing the instrument, and what she called a "flute" was actually a recorder.
Katy was trying to show off just how gangsta she is by performing her own rendition of Jay Z's song "Big Pimpin'" when she went from looking like a skilled woodwind player to having egg on her face.
During one part of the song, Katy was having a guy hold up a microphone for her while she played a bedazzled recorder (her version of a pimp cup). She managed to look like a real pro for a while, but Katy Perry's no pimp -- at one point she turned away from the recorder and microphone while the music kept playing (oops!). And to make things even worse, she admitted to the crowd, "So I lied. I can't play the flute." Apparently she can't play a recorder, either
Well, at least she didn't pull an Ashlee Simpson by getting caught lip synching, even though that practice seems to be a little more accepted these days -- it's doubtful Katy Perry would lose her whole career over it (when so much of your show involves wearing a kooky costumes, who really cares if you're actually singing, playing the flute, or whatever).
